Context of SPB
SPB is a French broker specialising in affinity insurance, founded in 1965 and employing almost 850 people. As the European leader in its market, the group provides insurance and assistance solutions for everyday products and services (banking, telecoms, distribution, mobility, energy, etc.).
In 2021, following the Covid-19 period, SPB’s head office in Le Havre has gone from 5,000m² premises with 120 parking spaces to offices halved in size and only 50 parking spaces. However, the number of employees had not reduced. It was therefore necessary to find a solution to optimise these parking spaces and accommodate the 120 motorists that were previously using the car park. All the more so as the company’s 3-day-a-week teleworking arrangement offered the possibility of sharing parking spaces between colleagues.
At the same time, for years the General Services department had been managing the distribution, recovery, forgetting and loss of barrier opening remote controls, which were distributed to all employees having access to the car park. Even if they only used the car park once or twice a year. A time-consuming task, considering the regular recruitments and staff departures that a company undergoes, which had to be optimised.
“I wanted to find a solution that would run as smoothly as possible and have as few problems to manage & as few interventions as possible for general services. Sharvy totally met my requirements!”
Philippe PRETERRE
Head of General Services, SPB
Setting up of Sharvy
The choice of Sharvy was made quickly and it didn’t take long for the General Services department to convince the group’s management to adopt the solution. Sharvy was set up and deployed in just a few days at SPB’s head office car park by the company’s General Services department and Sharvy customer support.
“Including the time it took to connect to our authentication system and the training required to get up to speed, I think it took just one or two weeks to set up. It was very quick and super simple to set up!”
Philippe PRETERRE
Head of General Services, SPB
From the outset, the company decided not to allocate parking spaces by name, as was previously the case and switch to flex parking. In addition, to make the system as simple as possible for employees, the spaces were not numbered. So, with just a few clicks, users can indicate in the application the days of the week for which they need a space, and the algorithm will confirm whether or not they have obtained a free parking space. This system has made it possible to avoid a number of problems linked to parking at the wrong parking space number, generating a snowball effect on other users, who are forced to park in another space, potentially also allocated to a colleague.
To make it easier for users to adopt and log on, Single Sign On authentication has been set up. This means that SPB employees do not need to create an account on Sharvy. They simply use their company identifiers to connect to the application and make their bookings.
Finally, to optimise access control and put an end to remote controls, an IoT module has been installed on the car park barrier. This means that any user with a reservation can open the gate via a button in their application.
SPB Favourite Features
SPB’s three favourite features are:
- Reservations in just a few clicks and automatic allocation of a free parking space, to avoid parking at the wrong number.
- Access control integrated into the application, turning the employee’s smartphone into a real remote control for opening the barrier.
- Parameters can be set to identify the types of parking spaces, including standard, electric, PRM and cycle spaces.
Benefits noted
The Sharvy solution has led to considerable financial savings for SPB in Le Havre. Thanks to the application, SPB is able to offer car park access to the same number of motorists as before, despite halving its number of spaces. The company did not need to rent spaces on the public highway to make up for this reduction. And the savings are far from negligible: over €20,000 a year, far more than the cost of the solution!
“Economically, a parking space on the public highway costs me €470 a year. So the 50 spaces I’ve saved thanks to Sharvy more than pay for the solution in the first year! Sharvy’s price is totally consistent with the service provided. My ROI is very high.”
Philippe PRETERRE
Head of General Services, SPB
In addition, connecting the application to the car park’s automatic barrier system has made it easier to control access to the car park. From now on, General Services no longer needs to manage opening remote controls, and above all no longer needs to distribute them to all employees. Sharvy manages everything within its application, which represents a major time-saver for General Services!
Sharvy’s algorithm also makes it possible to intelligently distribute parking spaces at SPB. It gives priority to allocating spaces in the indoor car park, before moving on to outdoor spaces if necessary. All this to improve the comfort, well-being and parking experience of employees.
“Overall, users are very happy and play along. There’s nothing complex about it, it’s super simple: you book a space for the days of the week when you need it, and that’s it. The application handles the rest!”
Philippe PRETERRE
Head of General Services, SPB
Satisfied with the results obtained at Le Havre and keen to improve the daily lives and QLWC of all its employees, the Group is now considering extending the application to other premises in France, and even using it to reserve self-service bicycles to avoid having to use multiple tools! To be continued…
